And a question for Buffalo Bill…

So… you just never know what kids pick up on… I always end my school presentations by trying to motivate the kids to “follow their own trail” and not someone else’s. Anyway, after the show I did last week at the Academy Charter School, a young man lagged behind as the others were leaving, and asked “so, what was MY trail?” Hmmm… ok… in five years, I’ve never been asked that. It took me a few seconds, but I finally offered up that after traveling on MANY trails over the years, this one I’m on now is to try and inspire folks to understand that their history is not just dates, old photos, and famous events, but it’s about real-live people, with their different emotions, beliefs, ambitions, and circumstances. He looked at me a second and said “you do that very well”… I’m pretty glad he left right after that…┬ádidn’t want him to see an old Marine get a little misty…
