What an unforgettable weekend…
I was invited to fly down and be a part of day-two, of a four-day 95th birthday celebration for a living legend in San Antonio. The entire Witte Museum was the venue, and was coincidentally featuring Buffalo Bill in their exhibit. There were photos and posters of Bill everywhere. As Bill was already the theme, I was to greet the several hundred guests and mingle in the ballroom a bit while “Asleep At The Wheel” performed for the dancers and magicians went table to table mystifying guests up-close with their unbelievable tricks.
I was scheduled to fly home the next day, but heard that day-three was to be at a different venue hosting a private three-ring circus performance event… unbelievable… I’m pretty sure day-four was a much needed restful brunch. To talk to the hundreds of friends she has gathered over her 95 years, and hear her story, from working in a roadside beer joint to becoming an internationally recognized “queen of catering” was nothing less than inspiring, and she was an honor to meet… gracious, funny, and down-to-earth.
I’m hoping to get some photos to share from the many pro photographers that were there, and since this celebration apparently happens every 5 years, I’ll sure want to be there for her hundredth!
Here’s a taste of her incredible life;
